Clear Spring Gun Shop offers a wide variety of small classes with personalized instruction for all levels of shooters from basic handgun qualification to beginner to expert and concealed carry.

Our instructors are active and retired law enforcement officers with training certifications that include handguns, shotguns, and long guns type 1 and type 2.

Facilities are top notch and include a dedicated classroom and private range where safety is a priority. This combination of class instruction and range practice ensures an interactive experience with immediate skills reinforcement for students.

Classes

HANDGUN QUALIFICATION LICENSE

Class Fee $50 / Class Size Limit 20

HQL is a 4-hour class required by the State of Maryland prior to being able to purchase
a handgun for Maryland residents.

Class provides an understanding of current Maryland state laws, plus a detailed explanation of the differences between pistols and revolvers, proper gun storage, basic gun cleaning, and first aid.

Students are required to fire one live round to qualify for this license. Both a gun and ammunition will be provided.

BASIC PISTOL

Class Fee $200 / Class Size Limit 20

Basic pistol is an 8-hour class focused on the basics of how to properly operate your pistol or revolver.

Topics include sight alignment, sight picture, how to properly draw from a hip holster, trigger control, and basic cleaning techniques. Class will include a significant amount of live fire practice on our private range.

Course will require a handgun and minimum of 250 rounds of full metal jacket or ball ammunition, plus proper eye and ear protection. No steel case ammo allowed. A limited quantity of rental firearms will be available for this class, with ammunition available for purchase.

WOMEN’S BASIC PISTOL

Class Fee $200 / Class Size Limit 16

This 8-hour class teaches the same proper firearm handling skills and basic marksmanship techniques as the Basic Pistol class, with special adjustments and personalization for ladies. This class proceeds at a comfortable pace for new
shooters.

Students are encouraged to bring their own handgun with a minimum of 250 rounds of full metal jacket or ball ammunition, plus proper eye and ear protection. A limited quantity of rental firearms will be available for this class, with ammunition available for purchase.

ADVANCED PISTOL

Class Fee $200 / Class Size Limit 20

This 8-hour class expands on the basic pistol class with the majority of time spend on
the live fire range.

Class consists of enhanced pistol marksmanship. Skills taught will include drawing and firing from holsters; shooting from both standing and on the move; shooting from standing, kneeling, and prone positions; shooting from behind barricades; and learning non-dominate hand shooting.

Students are required to have completed our Basic Pistol class prior to registering for this advanced pistol class, although exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis with the Chief Instructor’s approval.

This is a live fire training class, with students required to supply their own handgun plus a minimum of 400 rounds of quality ball or FMJ ammunition and proper eye and ear protection.

BASIC CONCEALED CARRY

Class Fee $200 / Class Size Limit 20

This 6 to 8-hour class expands on the basic pistol class with emphasis on proper drawing techniques from a concealed carry holster.

This is a live fire training class, with students required to supply their own handgun plus a minimum of 250 rounds of quality ball or FMJ ammunition, plus proper eye and ear protection.

Students are encouraged to bring multiple different types of concealed carry holsters to determine the best personal fit.

WEAR AND CARRY

Class Fee $275 / Class Size Limit 20

Available to both residents and non-residents, this 2-day class satisfies the Maryland State Police training requirement to obtain a Maryland concealed carry permit.

This is a live fire course, requiring a handgun and 50 rounds of ammunition, plus proper eye and ear protection.

We encourage you to bring your own equipment for comfort. However, eye/ear protection and guns are available to rent and ammunition is available to purchase.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL CLASSES

Safety equipment is a priority for all classes involving live fire exercises:

  • Protective Shooting Glasses
    Safety rating of at least ANSI Z87+ high impact approved

  • Hearing Protection
    Ear plugs or ear muffs with a NRR of at least 22DB

  • Proper Shooting Attire
    No shorts, open tees, tank tops, or open-toed shoes or sandals

  • Must be 21 years of age or older to attend all classes
